Below is a list of NSHRF's new programs.  For more information regarding any of these programs, please contact the appropriate Program Manager.



A  Knowledge Programs

The purpose of the suite of Knowledge Programs is to support systematic approaches to integrating the best evidence available to support informed decision-making.  The Programs are being piloted over the next year to address the dynamic information needs of decision-makers.

The Programs are:

2.  Training and Workshops
3.  Knowledge Planning
4.  Knowledge Sharing Support Award

Research Enterprise Development Initiatives (REDI)

The purpose of REDI is to support the health research enterprise in Nova Scotia and to ensure a systems-level approach to research enterprise development. This includes identifying the elements necessary to support the research enterprise and designing initiatives targeted to creating, evolving and/or sustaining these elements. 

The core elements of REDI are:

Competitive Collaborative Grants. This area is under development and will not be offered in 2010-11. These Grants will be priority driven.

REDI Awards investigator driven :

  • Research Skills Award,
  • Team Development Award, and
  • Catalyst Award.

Support to the health research enterprise:
  • Health Research Management, and
  • Community Collaboration.

NSHRF Competitive Health Research Funding Requirements 2010-2011
Student Research Awards Competition Requirements 2010-2011

The purpose of the Research Programs is to build capacity in health research across the four health research categories (biomedical, health policy, health services, and health outcomes.).

The Research Programs are entirely investigator driven and encompasses much of what was formally known as Health Research and Matching Grants. They are being strengthened to retain their relevance in our current health research landscape.

Partnership Programs

The purpose of the Matching Program is to provide required matching funds to help Nova Scotia applicants secure funding in national/international competitions.  The only programs currently eligible for NSHRF matching funds are CIHR’s Regional Partnership Program and the Partnerships for Health Systems Improvement program.  Due to limited fund availability all other aspects of the NSHRF Matching Program are currently closed.

  1. Regional Partnerships Program RPP - CIHR
    The purpose of the Regional Partnership Program is to support applications that are judged to be of high scientific merit through CIHR peer review scoring 3.5 and above , but are beyond the funding capacity of the CIHR’s base budget in the CIHR regular competitions.  At this time the only funding tool eligible under this program is CIHR’s bi-annual “Operating Grant”.  Refer to CIHR website for application details.

  1. Partnerships for Health Systems Improvements PHSI CIHR
    The purpose of the Partnership for Health Systems Improvements PHSI matching funds program is to support alliances of researchers and decision-makers in conducting applied health services and policy research, that will be useful to health system managers and/or policy makers. Funding is for research projects in which Nova Scotia researchers and decision makers figure prominently.  Refer to the CIHR Website for application details.

Changes to the Research Programs will take effect in 2011-12. Partnership program details are available on the NSHRF website: www.nshrf.ca. Details of the Highly Qualified Personnel program will be available in the fall of 2010, and Projects in January 2011.
