Health Research Funding
Since its inception in 1998, NSHRF has established and implemented three programs to manage the investment of health research funding and to provide development support to the research community in Nova Scotia. Grant applications are invited in each of these programs on an annual basis.
Peer Review has been established as a central component of the NSHRF application and review process. Peer review committees are composed of individuals from the health research community within and beyond Nova Scotia.
Competitive Health Research Competition: to help build capacity in health research across the four primary categories. Health Research Project Grants and Student Research Awards are the core of this program.
Matching Grants Program: to provide matching funds for established researchers who require provincial matching funds to secure funding from national and other health research funding agencies.
Capacity Program: to support and encourage research, competency and activity including support for students to showcase their work; researchers to continue to develop their skills and grant applications; and community/university alliances to establish support for new research teams.
Knowledge Transfer/Exchange Program: to support both researchers and research users in exchanging relevant knowledge that will influence health policy, health services, health outcomes and health research.
