NSHRF Peer REVIEW Process and Guidelines
Peer Review Overview
The Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation is committed to helping improve the health of Nova Scotians by developing and supporting a vibrant and sustainable health research community throughout the province. A key component of accomplishing this mission is awarding research funds based on scientific excellence determined by a rigorous scientific review process.
Since NSHRF was established, a scientific review process has been put in place, and we have also adopted national peer review process and guidelines.

PEER REVIEW OBSERVER PROGRAM
The purpose of the Peer Review Observer Program is to provide the opportunity for researchers and for those with an interest in health research to learn about the peer review process through first-hand observation of the NSHRF Peer Review Committee during its deliberations.
Peer review is the process of subjecting a researcher’s scholarly ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the field. The NSHRF, like the national funding agencies and others, uses the peer review process to assure that the research funded meets the highest standards of excellence.
Researchers, individuals who assist in the development of research applications and users of research are the target audience for this program. A clear understanding of the peer review process is a significant asset for those who wish to use quality research and those who write applications.
Application Deadline: April 30, 2010.
