KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER/Exchange

The purpose of the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation’s Knowledge Transfer/Exchange program is to support both researchers and research users in exchanging relevant knowledge that will influence health policy, health services, health outcomes and health research.  The program will provide opportunities for both competitive and non-competitive funding that assists researchers and researcher users in sharing this knowledge.  In addition, it will feature opportunities for learning about new and innovative methods in knowledge transfer/exchange.

Background

The Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation defines knowledge transfer/exchange as follows: “A specific process designed to create and facilitate the exchange of meaningful information generated from health research and the tacit knowledge of research users (health practitioners, policy makers, community groups, etc.) to help inform research.  The exchange of information informs decision-making at all levels of the healthcare system, from clinical decisions to government policy decisions as well as help influence the impact of research.”

This is a working definition to help frame the Foundation’s work in this area and feedback is welcome.  There are many definitions and terms (i.e. knowledge translation, knowledge generation, etc.) used to define the concepts of knowledge transfer/exchange.

As the program develops, a number of opportunities will become available.  The following is a brief overview of anticipated program activities:
