1. When attempting to validate my Common CV for NSHRF, I am asked to validate a PIN. What is this? How do I do this? Why does the PIN change to system account?
The PIN is used to join a user’s Common CV data with NSHRF’s Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS). All NSHRF competitions are moving towards being submitted electronically, so this step is needed to ensure all relevant data links to the correct user.
In order to do this, you will need an account in the EGMS system. This can be created at www.nshrf-egms.ca. When the account is created, note the Username (email address) and Password you used to create the account. Then login to your Common CV account and go through the process of PIN Validation. It will ask you for a system account (your EGMS username/email) and a password (your EGMS password). Please note that the First and Last Name must match from the Common CV to the EGMS. The steps are also available in the About EGMS section of the NSHRF website.
Common CV uses the term PIN, to reference a Personal Identification Number. NSHRF does not use this method to sync your Common CV with our internal database. We use a comparison of your first and last name, along with a validation of your EGMS username and password. Due to this, once you choose NSHRF in the agency list, the field PIN changes to reference your system account, which is the email address used to register for the EGMS system. NSHRF does not provide a PIN number.
2. When I am working through my Common CV, it tells me to click a link, but when I do nothing happens.
It is likely that you have your pop up blocker enabled. Please be aware that pop up blockers must be disabled for the Common CV site to work optimally.
3. I have validated and submitted my CV successfully, but I want to see the Official Copy PDF and am unable to do so. Why?
It is possible that your pop up blocker is enabled, but as well, there is a final screen that pops up and has a Finish Submission link on the bottom left portion of the screen. This is the window that the PDF generates in. If you click the Finish Submission link before the PDF appears, it will not have a chance to generate. This process can last a few minutes, so it is best to leave that window open until the PDF generates. If that still doesn’t work, contact the NSHRF helpdesk.
4. When I preview/print my CCV, I don’t see the attachment I uploaded in the Contribution-Details section.
The attachment does not get appended to the Print/Preview copy that is generated in the Common CV. When the CCV is finalized and submitted to NSHRF electronically, we receive a copy of your CCV, as well as a copy of your contribution-details upload.
5. NSHRF and the Common CV require files to be converted to PDF. How can I do this?
Some office suites such as Microsoft Office 2007 have the ability to print to PDF, or save as PDF, built in. Otherwise, a program like Adobe Acrobat Professional can be used. Otherwise, you are there are various free options available. We recommend using Primo PDF, which can be found here. They also offer the ability to convert to PDF directly online here.
6. I’m in the EGMS system, but nothing seems to be working. File uploads aren’t loading, expected buttons aren’t appearing etc…
Please see below for the optimal browser to be used for the EGMS system. If you encounter an issue in one browser, and have access to the other, it is possible accessing the system in another browser will allow the application to operate successfully. The developers strive to make the system accessible to all browsers, but updates and patches to the browser may interrupt normal functions of the system.
The EGMS service has been optimized and tested to work with the following browsers:
PC Users
EGMS is maximized for use in Internet Explorer Version 7.0 and Mozilla Firefox Version 3.
Macintosh Users
EGMS does not support Macintosh Safari web browsers. Please use Mozilla Firefox when using Mac operating systems. If you do not have Firefox for Mac, download the free software.
