About John Ruedy

Dr. John Ruedy is a man of many accomplishments.

He founded the first academic Division of Clinical Pharmacology in Canada. He conducted one of the first studies in Canada exploring the adverse effects of hospitalization. He helped transform St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver into the preeminent clinical care centre in Canada for patients with HIV/AIDS. As Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University, he launched the first campaign in eight decades to support endowed chairs.

But Dr. Ruedy's greatest accomplishment can't be measured. It can't be itemized on a résumé. It can, however, be seen in the dedication and skill of physicians he has nurtured and inspired as students and colleagues. It can be felt among the researchers whose studies are funded by organizations and programs Dr. Ruedy helped to forge and innovative ideas he supported and encouraged.

Dr. Ruedy is famous for his succinct emails. Yes. No. See me. He doesn't believe in wasting words. It is fitting then that we honor him with an original piece of artwork. We hope it speaks volumes about the man and his immense contribution to health in Canada.

Dr. Ruedy believes in getting to the heart of a matter -- and into the heart of those he works with, those he educates, and those he treats.

Thank you, John.
