Research Trainee Funding
In 2010 we undertook an in-depth analysis and consultation process of the student funding component of our Research Programs. The results of this activity helped shape Research Trainee Funding. These funding opportunities are designed to help research programs recruit and fund top research trainees based on evaluation of the research learning environment (Scotia Support Grant) and support individual research trainees based on their achievements (Scotia Scholarship).
Research Trainee Funding will provide support through two funding opportunities:
• Scotia Support Grant (Open to Researchers/supervisors)
• Scotia Scholarship (Open to research trainees)
The objectives of Research Trainee Funding are to:
• Support vibrant and productive Nova Scotia health research training environments;
• Ensure trainees have an opportunity to contribute to meaningful research work;
• Encourage interest in a career in health research; and
• Provide trainees with opportunities to contribute to knowledge generation in NSHRF priority areas.
Please note the NSHRF defines research trainee to include both pre and post doctoral trainees. The NSHRF considers research trainees to be: students enrolled at Nova Scotia universities/academic institutions who are completing thesis based degree programs at the Master and Doctorate levels or honours based degree programs at the Undergraduate level as well as academic post doctoral trainees.
