About Dr. George Turnbull
Dr. Turnbull has published widely and has taught and presented his work internationally. He edited the book Physical Therapy in the Management of Parkinson’s Disease. His research and clinical interests focus on people afflicted with Parkinson's Disease, particularly those who have been recently diagnosed. His current research interest is in the use of external cues to improve walking in people with Parkinson’s disease.
Dr. Turnbull has been an instrumental agent in growing the Parkinson Society in the Maritimes, establishing the Maritime Parkinson Clinic, serving on the Board of the Parkinson Society (Canada) and lecturing across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Dr. Turnbull’s humanity, compassion and selfless service has touched the lives of many persons living with Parkinson's, their families and friends, caregivers, health care professionals and others in the field.
Dr. Turnbull has served as the Chair of the Board of the Parkinson Society Maritime Region. Dr. Turnbull is Associate Dean, Academic Affairs and Research, Faculty of Health Professions; Professor, School of Physiotherapy; and Director, Maritime Parkinson Clinic. Dr. Turnbull is also the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the David Simmonds National Leadership Award, the Maritime Region’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Award of Recognition by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
